Every Lunar New Year billions of red envelopes stuffed with money are exchanged all over the world as a token of good fortune in the New Year. These red envelopes, called “hongbao” in Mandarin and “lai see” in Cantonese, are small red and gold packets given to children, family members, friends, and employees. In Chinese culture, the color red is associated with energy, happiness, and good luck. This year the Lunar New Year falls on Friday, February 12, and since it’s right around the corner, we wanted to give you the opportunity to participate in this age-old tradition. We’ve made DIY red envelopes kits for you and your family to create and decorate. They will be available for pick up starting Monday, February 1 in the entryway of our office building (1024) and remain there until supplies last.
