Application Process

CSCC is a highly desirable community for U of M students, so an application process is necessary. As we receive vacate notices from current residents, we are able to offer apartments to new residents. The sooner one applies, the earlier an offer can be made.

1. Applying for an apartment

To apply to live at CSCC, fill out the application and mail it with the $20 application fee to the CSCC office (1024 27th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414). You can also apply online and pay the $20 application fee by using the “send money to” in Paypal  with our e-mail address as the recipient, cscc {at} umn(.)edu.  You will be put in our application pool according to the date we receive your application. If your application fee is not enclosed, your date of application will not begin until we receive the fee.

**Please note that you do not need to meet the academic eligibility requirements when you apply, but you must meet them when you accept the apartment.

Family Eligibility

  • A student living with their spouse with or without minor children. A marriage certificate is required.
  • An unmarried student with 50% or greater physical custody of minor child(ren). Legal custody documentation is required.
  • Domestic partners as defined and authorized by the University.
  • Single graduates are eligible, but are limited to the flat-level apartments.  Students with a spouse or children, do have priority.

Academic Eligibility

  • One member of a family must meet the academic eligibility requirement.
  • Undergraduates must carry at least nine credits per semester.
  • Graduate or professional students must carry at least six credits or be actively working on a thesis only project.
  • Medical residents are allowed to reside at CSCC.
  • Post-docs are allowed to reside at CSCC.

2. Waiting for an available apartment

Once we receive your application and it is processed, we will email an acknowledgement letter which states your “Application  Date”. Our application pool time changes throughout the year and can be anywhere from one to 12 months. We have no control over openings in the complex as it all depends on when residents give us a vacate notice and an apartment becomes available.

If you want to know where you are in the application pool, call the CSCC office at 612-378-2434 or e-mail at cscc {at} umn(.)edu with your Application Date. Remember though, that the number given to you does not take into account when people are interested in moving into CSCC.  Some people might apply 1+ years in advance of wanting to move into CSCC.  (We do encourage prospective residents not to call during the first five days of the month as rent week can be a crazy time, and we cannot answer all your questions during this time).

We periodically send out update notices to those in the application pool to make sure that you are still interested in living at CSCC. You need to respond to the email notice and provide us with any changes in address or telephone numbers so that we are able to contact you when an apartment becomes available.

3. Accepting an apartment at CSCC

When your name comes up for an available apartment, we will call you with the offer giving you the address of the apartment, rental rate, and the move-in date. (Rarely does a date fall on the 1st of the month). The CSCC office will give you a limited time to make your decision. If you do not respond to the apartment offer, your name will be removed from the application pool.

Once you have accepted the apartment offer, we will e-mail you a lease agreement letter that includes the apartment details and a time for your move-in meeting. You will also need to return the security deposit (equal to one month’s rent) to the CSCC office within five days.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the office at 612-378-2434.
